A little more in depth

Personality: Mandy is highly intelligent and logical, but also has a very large heart. She cannot stand to see someone suffering, and has dedicated her life to helping those people who can't be helped with traditional potions. She cares deeply about her patients, but works hard not to get over-involved in their lives. She loves her son dearly, even if she doesn't always understand his more bohemian lifestyle. She has a sharp wit, and a strong intuition. She has learned when to not ignore what her gut is telling her, and uses that sense to help in her work. She is very trustworthy, and even her most reluctant patients found themselves spilling their thoughts and feelings before too long.
Special abilities/strengths/flaws: Mandy's strongest talent is her ability to listen and help people talk about what's bothering them. She did well in school, but never took her NEWTs. Her strongest magical subject was, oddly, Divination because it required not only knowledge of the person you were divining, but an understanding of what they were thinking and feeling. She is also strongly empathetic, able to put herself in her patient's place to allow for that extra bit of insight. Her biggest flaw is wanting to help everyone, and overextending her time. She also has a wicked temper, seen mostly when idiotic Healers think that potions are the only thing that can heal people. There is a time and place for potions, but they're not the only effective tool.
Plots you see your character participating in: - As a psychologist she can be involved in everything from recently turned werewolves, to the returned dead, to their family members. Anything really. Name it and we can figure it out.
Relevant backstory: Mandy had a fairly typical childhood, though with both her parents being child psychologists she felt at times like just another of their patients. When she showed her first signs of magic at age 9 her parents ran test after test on her, but found nothing. They researched 'psychic' phenomenon but didn't go so far as to allow other doctors and psychologists to run tests on their daughter. When they finally were visited by the Ministry in the summer of Mandy's eleventh year, everything made sense. Though it took them by surprise, the fact that Mandy was a witch was eventually taken in stride and Mandy headed off to Hogwarts where she was sorted into Ravenclaw. She'd always been a friendly girl, and quickly made friends in and outside her house. She bonded with Lavender Brown from the start, and the girls discussed everything from makeup and clothes to boys they found attractive.

The summer before seventh year everything changed. Mandy and her parents went to visit Diagon Alley as normal when they were all arrested. Mandy's parents were killed and Mandy sent to Azkaban for being a 'magic thief'. It was the roughest, most nightmarish year of her life. When she was finally released after the final battle she was a shell of her former self. Her grandparents, who had believed Mandy to be dead, were overjoyed at her return, but soon found that she was not the girl she'd been before. Though she worked hard and got her NEWTs, she also benefitted from counseling

1997-1998: Azkaban (book 7)
98-99: NEWTs + therapy of her own
99-2003: Undergrad course, continued seeing her therapist
2003-2006: General Healing
2006-2009: Specialisation while at St. Mungos
2013: Starts practice, gets graduate degree

She reconnected with Hogwarts friends, Anthony Goldstein in particular. He was training to be a Healer, and Mandy was in her second year of Muggle university. She wanted to be a psychologist and help people like her. Anthony and Mandy married, and in 2003 their son Ben was born. Mandy and Anthony divorced in 2009, but it was an amicable split and the two are still good friends. In 2013 Mandy and Lavender, who had remained friends through the years, slowly formed a relationship. Neither had ever been with a woman before, though the attraction had been there all along. They have been together ever since.

Mandy spent the years after Ben went to Hogwarts building her practice, and soon became known around St. Mungo's as the woman to see when Potions weren't helping. She specializes primarily in victims of the Cruiciatus curse, newly transformed werewolves, and prolonged exposure to Dementors. She has a private practice down the block from St. Mungo's and works closely with Healer Tracey Davis. She is also good friends with Audrey Weasley.
